Description
The Coast Guard Telecommunication and Information Systems Command is looking for information and possible suppliers of VHF-FM Handheld Radios meeting the following specifications and characteristics: Freq Coverage: 136 to 174 MHz to include the ability to cover the complete International Marine VHF-FM band with standard maritime channels as defined by the FCC and Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services; Compatability: Must be campatible with current in-place VHF-FM radios -- Motorola Astro Sabre 1R, Motorola Ast ro Spectra, Wolfburg AN/ARC-513 Avionics equipped w/Motorola DES encryption package, Motorola DES capable air stations and coastal high sites; Encryption: Use an NSA Approved DES algorithm, backward compatible with the proprietary Motorola DES encryption algorithm. Shall be able to be shifted between encrypted and clear VHF transmissions without reprogramming; Weight: Shall be less than 2 poundss in weight and the size shall not exceed that of the Motorola Astro Saber 1R; Durability: Shall be ruggedized and capable of immersion in salt water up to 6 feet in depth for 4 hours without leakage. Intrinsically Safe: Shall be approved intrinsically safe by the Factory Mutual Research Corp (FMRC) or the Underwriter Laboratories Inc (UL) for at use in at least Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D as defined in the National Electrical Code (NEC); Range Degradation: A maximum of 20% range degradation in encrypted (DES) mode as compared to clear transmissions; Accessories: Shall have the following accessories-remote microphone/speaker and headset. All accessories shall be certified as noted in durability and dintrinsically safe section(s) above; Battery: Shall have a battery life of 4 hours and shall also meet the requirements of durability and intrinsically safe section(s) above; Power Levels: Shall have a lower power level of 1W and a high level of 5W. The radio shall be able to adjust between these two power levels; Channels: Shall have a channel capacity of at least 255 channels. The programming of these channels shall allow for the channel assignments to be able to be divided into zones. Programming Channel/Frequencies and options shall be user programmable via a personal computer; Narrowbanding: Thsi radio shall be able to meet the forthcoming narrowbanding requirements, VHF channel bandwidth of 12.5 kHz; APCO 25: Radio must be APCO 25 certified; Display: A visual display shall be provided to indicate the channel number being used; Digital Capability: The transceiver shall be capable of using digital channels; Packaging: Each transceiver package shall include-One Handheld VHF-FM transceiver, one battery, one antenna and one radio holster. This is not a solicitation for the above equipment and the Coast Guard assumes no liability or obligation to procure this equipment. A solicitation and/or award for this equipment may or may not be issued. All interested parties are invited and may submit their technical data/information to the Technical Rep POC indicated in this notice.
