- Description
- The Fleet & Industrial Supply Center Norfolk, Washington Detachment intends to negotiate an firm fixed price contract on a sole source basis with Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. This contract will be for providing for the establishment of the Full Sky Astrometric Mapping Explorer (FAME) Master Teacher Program and development and dissemination short planetarium program focused on astrometric measurement. This contract is subject to the availability of funds and the anticipated period of performance is one base year and four (4) one year options beginning October 1, 2001. : Type of contract: the resulting contract will be a firm fixed price (FFP). FAR 52.232-33 Option to Extend Services. Contract note The option may be exercised any time prior to the end of the contract or any lot. This procurement will provide a FAME Master Teacher Program by recruiting 50 grade 5-8 classroom educators as Master Teachers to attend FAME workshops at SED; preparing these educators to lead interdisciplinary mathematics-based space science workshops in schools and make presentations at major national, regional, and state science and mathematics education conferences or planetarium conventions; and monitoring the school workshops and conference presentations conducted by these leaders. The theme of the school workshops and conference presentations is "The Size and Distance Scale of the Galaxy." The program must include astronomy concepts such as parallax and standard candles, and nature of science themes embedded in FAME such as distinguishing between evidence and inference or the interpretation of data. Additionally, the contractor will use FAME's ability to detect planets or planetary systems as a means to further engage students in space science. A Justification and Approval for Other Than Full and Open Competition has been prepared in accordance with FAR 6.302-1. Interested persons who believe they can provide the required services should fully explain their capabilities in writing within 8 days of the date of this announcement. No solicitation is available. The intent on this Synopsis is to determine if any additional source(s) exist and, therefore, no Request for Proposal (RFP) is available. Consequently, any response(s) failing to provide the aforementioned data but instead choosing to merely submit a routine letter requesting a copy of the RFP will be ignored.
