- THIS IS A 100% SMALL BUSINESS SET-ASIDE. PAINT (ZINC-RICH MOISTURE-CURED POLYURETHANE, GRAY/BLACK, 300 GALLONS); PAINT (MOISTURE-CURED POLYURETHANE COAL-TAR COMPOUND, RED/BROWN, 400 GALLONS); PAINT (MOISTURE-CURED POLYURETHANE COAL-TAR COMPOUND, BLACK, 400 GALLONS); THINNER (COMPATABLE WITH LINE ITEM #1 AT AN AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF 40 DEGREES F, 110 GALLONS); THINNER (COMPATABLE WITH LINE ITEMS #2 AND #3 AT AN AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF 40 DEGREES F, 220 GALLONS). PAINTING SPECIFICATION MATERIAL DESCRIPTION: The coating system for all steel surfaces on this project shall incorporate a three coat, single component, moisture-cure urethane system consisting of a zinc-rich primer stripe coat applied over all edges, corners, bolts, rivets and welds, a zinc-rich full prime coat and a refined coal tar/micaceous iron oxide-rich intermediate coat and topcoat. All steel coating products furnished for this project shall be manufactured by the same manufacturer and shall be compatible with one another. All coatings proposed must be certified by manufacturer to meet the "Buy American" requirement of all federally funded projects. As defined, this shall consist of American-made material having all manufacturing processes occur in the United States. All the protective coatings in this specification will require certification from the manufacturer that the coating can be applied at relative humidity up to 96%, temperatures down to 22o degrees F, and there is to be no restriction on dewpoint temperature differential if the surface is visibly dry and free from condensate. All paint shall be prepared at the factory ready for application. The addition of thinner or other material to the paint after the paint has been shipped shall not be permitted, except as recommended by the manufacturer and by permission of the Engineer. Contractor shall furnish paint manufacturer's certification that the paint complies with paint system requirements specified. Tinting -- All tinting materials required shall be added to the paint at the time of paint manufacture. Field tinting shall not be allowed. All containers shall be labeled showing the exact title of the paint, the manufacturers name, date of manufacture, the manufacturer's batch number, and the specification number and the lot number if appropriate. Containers shall be packaged in new approved cans. Precautions concerning the handling and application of paint shall be shown on the label of paint and solvent containers. Material Safety Data Sheets for all paint and solvents supplied shall be forwarded to this office.
