Description

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate a Purchase Order with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) to conduct a conference on Transportation and Sustainability. The conference is being conducted to further the study of sustainable transportation as it relates to all aspects of transportation development and operation. The conference participants will include private sector, academia, Federal, State and local governments. TRB is uniquely qualified to conduct this conference because they routinely plan, coordinate and conduct specialty conferences of interest to a broad cross-section within the public and private agencies inside of the transportation community and have the ability to disseminate the results of these conferences. More importantly, TRB has formed a Transportation and Sustainability Task Force to provide a forum to foster understanding of the evolving knowledge regarding sustainability and the elements of transportation that are contributing to long term environmental disturbances. And as a result, this task force will be providing valuable input related to the planning, structure and content of this conference. Because TRB developed the Transportation and Sustainability Task Force that is vital to the success of this conference and can bring together the important roles within the transportation and academia community, they are the only known source that can plan, coordinate and conduct this interactive and productive conference on Transportation and Sustainability. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is September 3, 2001.=20
