Description

National Institute of Child Health and Human Development The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is planning to award a new contract to examine behavioral and environmental risk factors for childhood drowning using a case-control study design. As a population based study, all eligible submersion victims in defined geographic areas will be identified. Cases will include children, ages 1 through 18 years who drowned in a swimming pool, lake, river or other large body of water. Controls will include children who didn't drown and who reside in the same geographic region (e.g. county) as the case. Controls will be identified through random digit dialing or another scientifically sound and feasible method. Cases and controls will be matched on gender and age of the child. Of primary interest is the relationship between exposure to water, swimming ability, swimming lessons and the risk of drowning. Information on other environmental, child/adolescent, and parental factors will be collected at the time of the interview. The required service is defined as code 541720 under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). The RFP is available on the NICHD web site listed below. All responsible sources may submit a proposal for consideration no later than 4:00 pm (Local Time), October 22, 2001. This advertisement does not commit the government to award a contract.
