Description
The Defense Supply Service-Washington (DSS-W) intends to award a sole source contract to Dr. Shannon A. Brown, 1819 North Highland St. Arlington, VA to prepare a documentary volume in the History of Acquisition in the Department of Defense series. The wor k will be performed during a base year and four option years at the Center of Military History, contingent on the preparation of a suitable project directive and project plan for the volume during the base year. Included in the project plan will be an outl ine that organizes the presentation into a dozen or more separate sections. The result will be in a major scholarly collection focused on the period 1945 to the present in the equivalent of 700-900 typescript manuscript pages, to include introductory and explanatory materials, the appropriate documents and supporting citations, bibliography, and annexes as necessary, all of which will reflect the highest professional historical standards. It should also comply with the Center of Military History s Manuel of Style and be available in an electronic format compatible to word-processing software used by the US Army Center of Military History. Also during the base year the contractor will edit the proceedings of the September 2001 Acquisition History symposium and support them through the production (copyediting, graphics, printing and binding, distribution, etc.) process at the Center. In addition, the contractor should be prepared to support the overall project by updating the existing case study and oral hi story data bases, publishing the quarterly newsletter, managing both the project s Web site and its automated data base, and providing guidance regarding the development of acquisition hardcopy archives by all project personnel, to include the project s ow n oral history transcriptions. As necessary, the contractor will have his products reviewed by other historians working on the Acquisition History Project, by the project s ad hoc advisory board, and by other members of the defense historical and acquisit ion communities as appropriate, and revise them in accordance with the instructions and schedules of the Center s chief historian. Finally, the contractor will review the work of other project historians as necessary. This notice is for informational purpo ses only. No solicitation will be issued.
