- Description
- The USCG Maintenance & Logistics Command, Atlantic is seeking information from industry as to the commercial availability and capability of boat leasing to include associated preventative and corrective maintenance. The concept of leasing to include maintenance is being researched to determine its feasibility and application within the area of Coast Guard search and rescue (SAR) missions. Conceptually, the 27-30 foot leased boats (minimum of two (2) operational boats required at any given time) would be utilized by the Coast Guard to accomplish SAR missions at the unit level; thus requiring emergency response to casualties. The general parameters to consider when providing feedback are: Provide routine maintenance in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations Provide 4-6 hour response to begin casualty repairs once notified by the CG. If vendors can meet this requirement, what geographic region of the U.S. can the vendor guarantee the level of response. Maintenance and repair responsibility will extend to the entire boat and trailer. This responsibility will include but not be limited too; propulsion equipment and controls, hull assembly, any additional installed mechanical systems, electrical system, all electronic equipment including navigation, communication and system monitoring equipment. All boat trailer brake and wiring will also be included. For this proposal, the Coast Guard will deal with only one contractor and a single point of contact. Maintain a target operational availability (in hours) of 90% per quarter for both boats. Vendor will stock and provide all spare parts. Coast Guard will provide gasoline and two-stroke oil (if needed) only. Interested firms are requested to provide feedback to the above general parameters as well as provide alternative methods or combinations of methods to meeting the operational need of an individual CG unit. Interested firms shall provide feedback in hardcopy by 28 September 2001 to LT Klunk at Commander, Maintenance & Logistics Command (vs), 300 East Main Street, Suite 600, Norfolk, VA 23510. Questions regarding this request for information should be directed to LT Klunk via e-mail at wklunk@mlca.uscg.mil.
