- Description
- NASA/MSFC is hereby soliciting information for potential sources for COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH & EDUCATION EFFORTS TO SUPPORT THE MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER SCIENCE ACTIVITIES. NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center is soliciting expressions of interest to assist in collaborative research and education efforts at the Microgravity Science and Applications Department (MSAD) and the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC). Specifically, NASA is seeking an organization to actively cultivate and support a constituency of government, university, and private-sector scientists working with NASA scientists on a variety of projects. The science effort is broad reaching and provides the capability to employ a variety of state-of-the-art approaches to obtain the world-class research capability desired. The goal of MSFC is two-fold: 1) To define and implement the Biotechnology and Materials Science research programs of NASA's Office of Biological and Physical Research for the nation. This includes the related research sponsored by MSAD. 2) To leverage the resources of the NSSTC partners to optimize investments and create stronger research teams to produce cutting edge results in one or all of the seven science disciplines at the NSSTC. The specific science research centers are: 1. Earth Science 2. Space Science 3. Optics and Energy Technology 4. Materials Science 5. Biotechnology 6. Propulsion Physics 7. Information Technology In addition, MSFC is interested in promoting scientific collaboration and exchange through active visiting scientists programs at the MSAD and the NSSTC. This includes sponsorship of research visits between visiting scientists and MSFC scientists, support of topical workshops and scientific meetings, and sponsorship of research appointments for short and long-term visitors (including university scientists on academic sabbatical leave). By sustaining a steady flow-through of scientists and providing stimulating opportunities for exchange of ideas, research collaborations among these communities will be enhanced. Both MSAD and the NSSTC have a strong commitment to education and public outreach for all of the constituent science disciplines. This includes, but is not limited to, graduate student fellowships, post-doctoral positions, and pre-college educational outreach. Innovative approaches are key to the success of this area. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in the CBD and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service.
