Description
SEPTEMBER 10, 2001 SUBJECT: CARBON AND NITROGEN ELEMENTAL ANALYZER DUE 100601 POC MAGGIE FRITTS, FAX 703-648-7367 DESC: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement for carbon and nitrogen elemental analyzer. The system specifications are as follows: (1) Simultaneous determination of the elements carbon and nitrogen by combusting the sample and measuring the entire contents of nitrogen and carbon in the combustion gases. (2) The system must employ electronic mass flow controllers for the regulation of the helium carrier gas and oxygen combustion gas. (3) The system must employ a single thermal conductivity detector and analyze all of the analyze gasses resulting from combustion without the utilization of a gas splitting system. (4) The system must be able to measure from 0.002mg to 150mg absolute nitrogen and from 0.02 to 400mg absolute carbon. (5) The system must have a 60-position or greater automatic sample-loading device capable of handling both solid and liquid samples. (6) The sampler must be capable of handling the following sample sizes: soils up to 1.5g, plant tissue up to 5 cubic centimeters, water or water with sediments up to 4ml in volume and particulate matter entrained on glass fiber filters. (7) Sampling device must remove the ash after the analysis of each sample. (8) Must include software required for the operation of the instrument by an external PC operating Windows NT or 2000. (9) The system must operate on 120 VAC, 60 HZ power. (10) The system must be supplied with all required gas regulators and tubing. (11) Include installation and training by a factory-trained representative (12) The vendor must successfully demonstrate that the unit can accurately analyze carbon at 0.04mg + or 0.002mg (absolute) and nitrogen at 0.04mg + or 0.002mg (absolute) particulate matter entrained on the surface of 47mm glass fiber filters. Vendors who can provide the carbon and nitrogen elemental analyzer to exact specifications may request a copy of RFQ01ERQQ0173 by faxing requests to Co at 703-648-7367. All requests must be in writing, no telephone requests will be accepted. Award will be made on or about September 17, 2001 under Simplified Acquisition Threshold of $100,000.00. See Note 1.
