Description
The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC is developing high energy high performance gun propellant that can be iginited using the Electrothermal- Chemical (ETC) ignition system in support of the Future Combat System (FCS) Multi-Role Armament and Ammunition Advanced Technology Demonstration. The use of energetic thermoplastic elastomer (ETPE) based gun propellants ETPE propellants in laminated configuration with relatively high solids loading contents have proven to provide increased ballistic performance over currently fielded gun propellants. Other gun propellant formulations consisting of nitrocellulose binder in laminated and granular forms are also being investigated for this program. In order to downselect the best candidate propellant formulation, it is necessary to conduct 60 mm ETC gun firings to further select the best candidate for future full scale testing and qualification program. The contractor should be able to conduct 60 mm ETC firings on the GFM propellants delineated above. The 60 mm ETC test fixture should have all the necessary hardware required for the tests. The contractor shall be responsible for the loading and assembling of the test rounds. The following data should be obtained during the gun firings conducted with the 60 mm ETC gun test fixture: Rear chamber pressure vs. time, Forward chamber pressure vs. time, Pressure differential (rear-forward) vs. time, T2 (time to 10% of Pmax), T4 (time to muzzle exit), Muzzle Velocity, Voltage, Current, Energy, and Power. Interested vendors are invited to identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement by submitting supportive documentation. Documentation must clearly show evidence and ability to provide support described herein. This is not a request for proposals. Questions concerning above to be addressed to Thelma Manning, ANSTA-AR-WEE, email: tmanning@pica.army.mil
