Description
The National Compact Stellerator Experiment (NCSX) Project, a Partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and in collaboration with several U.S. Universities and fusion instutitions throughout the world is currently in the "Conceptual Design" stage of developing a new class of stellarators known as "Compact Stellarators." The NCSX is a part of the Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), a U.S. Department of Energy Prime Contractor. For the Compact Stellarator vacuum vessel a "draft" product Specification and Pro/Engineer model will soon be available. PPPL desires to enter into one or more fixed-price Subcontracts with potential vacuum vessel suppliers, experienced in building equipment similar to the vacuum vessel of interest, to prepare a "Manufacturing Study" addressing issues such as, manufacturing process recommendations, proposed design/specification changes, alternative approaches to forming the vacuum vessel, budgetary cost and schedule estimates for vacuum vessel production and recommended R&D and prototyping activities. Those interested in receiving a copy of the RFP should transmit a written statements of interest, with a synopsis of qualifications, to the PPPL RFP Coordinator Larry L. Sutton by Monday 8 October 2001 by e-mail or telefax.
