- Description
- The U.S. General Services Administration is evaluating various collection strategies and market development opportunities for recycling scrap from used computer and other electronic equipment. The goals of this program are: (1) provide no-cost obsolete electronics collection and (2) ensure demanufacturing of equipment or components with the highest level of use and minimal landfilling. These items, especially monitors, contain hazardous components, which can produce environmental and health hazards if disposed of in normal trash collection. Therefore, companies must have appropriate certification to remove hazardous materials from the equipment before disposing in landfills. Companies would also be required to report the tonnage of equipment picked up at each location. The program would encompass our six state region including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Electronic equipment considered for this program may include: Computer CPUs, CRTs: computer monitors and small televisions (no consoles), Keyboards, Printers, Fax machines, Copiers, VCRs, and other miscellaneous items. One or more than one-day collections at a specific location per month. A permanent collection bin placed at a facility and picked up when full. Periodic Event Collection bin and pick up on an as needed basis only. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL DEVELOP INTO A CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY. Provide information on your company in the following areas: Costs; Certifications to handle hazardous materials, such as mercury, lead, etc., Various electronic equipment, Various collection methods, Collection bins provided-various sizes, What will happen to equipment once it's picked up? Can you pick up in all six states? Can you provide a quarterly report on tonnage? Mail responses OR E-mail to: U.S. General Services Administration Karen A.
