- Westat is issuing a RFP, under existing NICHD contract # NO1-HD-3-3162, for clinical sites to participate in the NICHD Pediatric and Maternal HIV Clinical Trials Network. The primary goals of the NICHD Pediatric and Maternal HIV Clinical Trials Network and this RFP include development of improved interventions to further reduce mother-to-child HIV transmission; identification of therapies that improve the clinical status, quality of life and survival of HIV-infected children and adolescents at all stages of disease, from early asymptomatic infection to end-stage AIDS, including antiretroviral drugs, therapies aimed at immune reconstitution, and gene therapy; identification of therapies or prophylactic regimens that prevent or mitigate the development of serious sequelae of pediatric and adolescent HIV infection including opportunistic infections, growth abnormalities, neurological/ neurodevelopmental impairments, and other complications of HIV infection; identification and evaluation of therapies that are relevant to countries outside of the U.S.; evaluation of the short and long-term effects of HIV-related interventions administered to pregnant HIV-infected women and their infants; and evaluation of the pathogenesis of HIV disease and perinatal transmission in the context of clinical trials and improved treatment of HIV infection and its sequelae in infants, children, adolescents, pregnant women, and mothers. =20 It is expected that a subcontract agreement will be established with successful offerers, under a prime NICHD contract, for participation in the network. The RFP contains detailed information on preparing the technical and cost proposals, the evaluation criteria, and additional background information. The proposal due date is January 15, 2002, 4:00 P.M. (Eastern Time). Proposals will be evaluated in accordance with the evaluation criteria by an Ad hoc Peer Review group.
