Description

This project is a Service Contract with an Embedded Timber Sale; to secure a complete set of services to accomplish st and treatments related to: 1) reduction of stand density (commercial thinning) on approximately 637 acres in 10 units; 2) r eduction of standing fuel ladders (pre-commercial thinning) on approximately 68 acres within the same 10 units; 3) removal o f an estimated 3,546 CCF of commercial sawlog material; 4) treatment of slash created by these activities; 5) 5.340 kilomete rs of road reconstruction; 6) 11.315 kilometers of road maintenance and 7) construction and rehabilitation of 6 landings alo ng with burning of landing slash. The sawlog volume shall be purchased through a 2400-3T Timber Contract, helicopter yarded to landings and removed from Natio nal Forest land and utilized if at least 33 1/3% sound. Removal and utilization of non-sawlog material is encouraged if mar kets exist. Slash disposal methods such as lop and scatter, hand slash and concentrate; and pullback from leave trees will be utilized thoughout portions of the project area. In addition, whole tree yarding all cut trees will be required on 5 acr es. The project area is located approximately 11 miles south of Idaho City, ID on State Highway 21. Est. start date is May 15, 2002 with a completion date of November 30, 2004. A show-me-trip is scheduled on November 15, 2001 at the Idaho City Ranger District Office at 9 am.
