Description

Johnson Engineering (JE), a SPACEHAB Company, is a prime contractor (NAS9-18800) to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston, TX. JE is seeking qualified sources that possess the capability to design and fabricate a shell type structure (Ultra Light Weight Rack), open at its front face, that is approximately 6 1/2 ft tall x 3 1/2 ft wide x 3 ft deep with a total not to exceed weight requirement of 50 lbs., including approximately 20 lbs. of associated, customer-furnished hardware installed. Load bearing capabilities imposed on the shell structure will be minimal, involving primarily self-support when resting flat on the floor, or secured through attachment fittings located at the corners of the shell. The shell structure design will need to be optimized so as to possess reasonable toughness and rigidity to withstand routine handling by personnel without exceeding the total weight limit. Qualified sources are requested to submit a Statement of Capabilities (SOC), within 15 calendar days of the publication date of this notice, that demonstrates Engineering and Design experience and specific in-house experience working with various carbon fiber composites and resins necessary to develop ultra light weight and medium size structures, or experience working with laminated and layered structures with honeycomb cores. The SOC must identify any services that would be subcontracted to a lower-tier supplier and any other relevant information. A prospective Sub-Contractor must furnish references, and examples of prior or similar work that is comparable to the Ultra Light Weight Rack and include information that describes your facility and equipment to perform this type work. Include your business status (e.g., Small Disadvantaged or Woman-Owned Business, Small or Large) and mail your SOC to Johnson Engineering, 12130 Hwy 3, Webster, TX 77598. JE reserves the right to pre-qualify any prospective suppliers prior to the issuance of any solicitation. All firms submitting an SOC will be considered, and any subsequent solicitation will be issued to the sources that JE has determined to be qualified. JE does not intend to pay for information received as a result of this synopsis.
