Description

The US Government intends to award a contract modifi- cation to General Dynamics-Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) contract DAAE30-99-C-1104. The modification requires the contractor to unpack, inspect and repackage 9,257 81mm HE mortar cartridges. The inspection must be performed using a Government certified, automated, real time, digital, radiographic inspection system. The system shall be capable of detecting and evaluating base gap separation between the base of the steel shell body and the cast composition B fill as small as .003 of an inch. The system must be capable of making an automated accept/reject determination of the base gap. The sys- tem must be capable of detecting Composition B defects such as, voids as small as 1/16-square inch; horizontal cracks as thin as 1/20 of an inch; and porosity. The system should also be capable of detecting cracks in the shell body walls. The resolution of the digital images shall be of sufficient quality to allow a certified level II radiographic inspector to compaare the image to a visual standard and make an accept/reject deter- mination. The system must be able to handle and inspect fully assembled cartridges. The contractor must have the ability to handle and store Class A energetic material. See Note 22.
