Description

NASA/SSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the purchase of six servo amplifiers. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). This is a Commercial Item Acquisition under FAR Part 12. The Stennis Space Center Procurement Office intends to issue a sole source, firm fixed price purchase order to BAFCO, Inc., Warminster, PA 18974, for six servo amplifiers. The primary reason that BAFCO valve controllers must be used for this expansion of the E3 Cells 1 and 2 Control System is the control system and software in neighboring facilities utilizes this type of hardware. In order to promote and ensure commonality of systems, this equipment is a necessity on which to base the ongoing propulsion test effort. To use alternative equipment would incur prohibitive costs in redesign/reprogramming and subsequently delay the facility completion. This is a sole source procurement under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. The Government believes only one responsible source can provide the service that will satisfy the agency requirements. This notice of intent is not a request for quotation (RFQ) for competitive quotes. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:00 p.m. local time on December 4, 2001. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
