- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI), intends to negotiate a commercial item (FAR Part 12) sole-source contract with Sequenom Inc., 11555 Sorrento Valley Road, San Diego, California 92121. =20 This action is pursuant to 41 USC 253 (c)(1) and under the authority of FAR 6.302-1: Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. Researchers of the NCI Core Genotyping Facility (NCGF), have been establishing to address the acute need of the NCI community for access to high-throughput genotyping. The NCGF's ability to process and analyze more than 12 million Human Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) is of paramount importance to the epidemiology studies on Cancer at NCI. To accomplish this goal, NCGF needs to implement a combination of high-throughput platforms and automated sample manipulation. The NCGF is focusing its efforts on several well-established high-throughput DNA combinations of genotyping platforms and chemistries. By far, the most robust SNP analysis technology available at NCGF is the (Government- owned) Sequenom-based DNA homogeneous Mass Extension (hME) assays using a Bruker MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer. NCGF counts with two Sequenom-dedicated Multimek 96 systems. One Multimek 96 system is set for the updated extension chemistry. The other, earlier-generation system can only process samples for the old, already discontinued, extension chemistry. To make this Multimek system work with the latest, more efficient and sensitive chemistry, it has to incorporate a new low-volume head and additional attachments. The upgrade will eliminate the need to acquire a new Multimek system for added throughput and backup. The attachments that are fully compatible with the current robotic sample handling and thermo cycling equipment available at NCGF. One additional upgrade required is on the MALDI-TOF MS itself. Sequenom has implemented the SpectroTYPER RT software and server upgrade for the Bruker Mass Spectrometer, with proprietary geometry files written by Sequenom as well as an improved front end user interface tailored to higher throughput genotyping needs. The combination of the geometry files and the software results in a system that allows for greater call efficiency. Sequenom is the only source known to NCGF investigators that can provide the above instrument upgrades and software that is compatible with existing equipment. This is not a request for competitive quotation, however, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. Information furnished shall be in writing and shall contain sufficient detail, to allow NCI to determine if the party can meet the requirement. Capability statements must be received in the Contracting Office by 1:00 PM EST on December 7, 2001. If you have any questions, please contact Malinda Holdcraft, Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
