Description
Huntsville, AL -- The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) has recently revised the qualification requirements for CAST-STD-1 so casting suppliers can become qualified faster and at lower cost. AMCOM estimates it will spend approximately $635,000 ,000 on spare parts in fiscal year 2002 and is currently seeking qualified casting suppliers for spare parts for Army Rotary Aircraft Systems such as the APACHE, BLACKHAWK, CHINOOK, KIOWA WARRIOR, HUEY, COBRA, and COMMANCHE. Some highlights for the revision include: reduced sample requirements for Class 4 castings (Ref: SAE-AMS-2175), potential for waiving the need for sample castings for part families when supplier has proven process and quality capability to AMCOM on a part family member, potential for granting qualification based on representative samples versus specific part drawings. Once qualified, suppliers are placed on a list of companies who exclusively provide castings for spare part acquisitions. The competitive bid package for every acquisition requiring a casting contains a list of qualified suppliers to provide the part(s). Therefore, for every casting a company is qualified to supply, it will be specifically identified in the Spares Technical Data Package, included with the bid, as a qualified supplier. To become a qualified supplier, companies must meet the requirements of the CAST-STD-1 document.
