Description
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), operated by Battelle Memorial Institute under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, solicits interest from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market the following technology (hereinafter referred to as "technology"). License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. PNNL may also be available to licensee(s) to assist in further research and development of the technology under a sponsored research agreement or CRADA program. This technology is a method for taking the data generated from an array of responses from a multichannel chemical sensor instrument, and determining the characteristics of a chemical in the sample without the necessity of calibrating or training the instrument with known samples containing the same chemical. The characteristics determined by the method are then used to classify and identify the chemical in the sample. The method can also be used to quantify the concentration of the chemical in the sample. The method has been fully elaborated and demonstrated via simulations. US and foreign patents pending. Details have been published: "A Method for Chemometric Classification of Unknown Vapors from the Responses of an Array of Volume-Transducing Sensors", J.W. Grate et al., Anal. Chem., 2001, 73(10), 2239 -2244. "Methods for characterizing, classifying, and identifying unknowns in samples", published US Patent Application No. US 2001/0029774 A1 (Appl. No. 09/797,162). "Method for Unknown Vapor Characterization and Classification Using a Multivariate Sorption Detector. Initial Derivation and Modeling Based on Polymer-Coated Acoustic Wave Sensor Arrays and Linear Solvation Energy Relationships", J.W. Grate et al., Anal. Chem., 1999, 71(20), 4544 -4553. "Acoustic Wave Microsensor Arrays for Vapor Sensing", J.W. Grate, Chem. Rev., 2000, 100, 2627. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Any company interested in licensing this technology must respond with a letter of interest (may be submitted by e-mail) no later than 90 days from the publication date of this Notice summarizing the company's business and technical expertise and motivation for pursuing this opportunity. Companies deemed appropriate will be provided with further information on the technology. Such information may require an executed Nondisclosure Agreement. Respondents wishing to enter into negotiations for a commercial license will be required to submit a business plan for the commercialization of the technology prior to licensee selection and negotiations. Please send letters of interest to the attention of the POC identified within this Notice.
