Description
PROJECT NAME: ARRA-funded remedial repair of Floodwater Retarding Dam (RFD) 53 in the Wet Walnut Watershed District No. 58, Subwatershed No. 5 SOLICITATION TYPE: Invitation for bids, full and open competition. CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed Price. ESTIMATED PRICE RANGE: Between $250,000 and $500,000. LOCATION: Ness County, Kansas SUMMARY: Work will include front slope armoring and a toe drain on a floodwater retarding dam. The upstream wave protection slope has experienced erosion due to wave action, and the downstream toe is experiencing significant seepage on the left abutment. The repair of the wave protection slope involves replacing eroded material on the 12:1 slope and placement of a rock riprap wave barrier along the length of the slope to break incoming waves. The toe drain installation will involve placement of fine drainfill and about 400 feet of perforated collection pipe along and to the left of the principal spillway, as well as solid pipe to discharge the flow to the stilling basin. To reduce the trenching depth for the drain, the top five feet of the downstream stability berm (back berm) over the length of the drain will be excavated before the drain installation and then replaced. In addition, a length of fence will be temporarily removed for construction of the drain and then rebuilt. The repaired areas and other associated disturbed areas will be reseeded to native grass. TIME FRAMES/DATE: Solicitation packet is tentatively scheduled for posting February 8, 2010, with bid opening tentatively scheduled for March 10, 2010. It is anticipated construction will commence on or about April 15, 2010, and work will be completed by approximately June 30, 2010. Prospective contractors must obtain a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number.
