NASA Glenn Research Center has committed support for specific efforts under the AmericanRecovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.Recovery Act funds for NASAs AeronauticsResearch Program will accelerate key research, enhance the state of aeronautics for thenation, and expand the viable and well-informed trade space for vehicle design decisionsand enable simultaneous realization of National noise, emissions, and performance goals. With the NASA Research Announcement (NRA), NNH09ZEA001N-SSFW1, NASA sought proposals thatwill identify new combustor concepts capable of meeting N+2 NOx goals. The specific area of support for this work, per NASAs Recovery Act Program Plan forAeronautics Research, is to develop low emissions combustor concepts capable of meetingthe LTO (landing and take-off) NOx emissions reduction goal while contributing to theachievement of the fuel burn goal and without negatively impacting other emissions. Thelow emissions combustor should be capable of meeting the N+2 LTO NOx goal of 75%reduction from the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) standard adopted atCAEP 6 (Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection).NASA Glenn Research Center intends to issue a contract entitled "N+2 Advanced Low NOxCombustor Technology to develop low emissions combustor concepts in support of NASAsN+2 Subsonic Effort. The proposal was previously submitted in response to a NASAResearch Announcement (NRA) NNH09ZEA001N-SSFW1, Research Opportunities in Aeronautics(ROA) 2009 issued April 13, 2009. This effort will be performed at Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford, CT, authorized under theAmerican Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
