A -- LLNL SEEKS INDUSTRIAL COLLABORATOR(S) TO DEVELOP AND DEPLOY RAPID, IN SITU CONTAMINANT DESTRUCTIVE TECHNOLOGIES POC For further information, contact Industrial Partnerships & Commercialization, at (510) 423-3139. Announcement Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of the Energy (DOE), is currently developing novel thermal and biologic groundwater remediation technologies which efficiently destroy contaminants in situ by oxidation. These processes are designed to work both individually and in concert to rapidly eliminate source regions for contaminant plumes. Chlorinated solvents are the current contaminants of interest but additional classes of hazardous compounds are potential targets. A laboratory and field program is currently being initiated to establish a sound scientific and engineering foundation. It is anticipated that the technologies will be applied at the LLNL Main site and at other government and private locations following successful completion of this two-year development phase. One of LLNL's objectives for the above project is to facilitate the transition from technology development to technology application at the LLNL Main site and other locations. A new approach is required. This announcement is to initiate a process that may lead to establishing a long term relationship with one or more commercial firms to develop this new model. The type of partnership(s) is not prescribed and alternative approaches are solicited. However, it is expected that the relationship(s) will include the direct participation of company personnel in all aspects of technology development required for commercial, stand-alone implementation. This collaboration may include some combination of contract work, in-kind contributions, and financial investments; firm(s) making the greatest contribution(s) would be clearly favored. The selected commercial partner(s) will be expected to license the technology(ies), as a precondition to participation, and actively pursue their application after concluding participation. Firms interested in developing a partnership with LLNL in this arena should respond within 15 working days of publication of this announcement to the LLNL Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization Office. Respondents will receive a mutual nondisclosure agreement, an information packet, and a questionnaire. The questionnaire will explore the respondents technical expertise, their record of successful deployment of new remediation technologies, their familiarity and access to current and future U.S. markets - especially within the DOE complex, and other market information. Interested firms will have an additional 20 days to respond to this questionnaire. This announcement seeks market survey information only and is neither a procurement, request for proposals, nor authorization to begin work. (088)
