The Simplified Tax and Wage Reporting System (STAWRS) project is a Federal and state partnership initiative for the purpose of reducing the tax and wage reporting burden for the nation's 6.7 million employers. The program focuses on three core areas -- Simplified Requirements, One-Stop Customer Service,and Single Point Filing. In August 1997, STAWRS announced the availability of software development requirements for electronic single point filing on the STAWRS web site (www.treas.gov/stawrs). STAWRS has continued to refine the electronic single point filing concept and software requirements with the state of Iowa. The STAWRS project with it's state partner, Iowa, are now ready to entertain partnerships with the software development community. The partnerships will involve joint efforts to determine the marketability of single point software for employers and/or payroll service providers.
