The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Hampton, Virginia is seeking A/E design services for project 590-225, Renovate Extended Care & Rehabilitation Center (ECRC) for Geriatric Psych, Building 146 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Hampton, Virginia. This project will require field investigation, working AutoCAD 2000 drawings and specifications, construction period services, estimates, and certain other items. Renovation work will occur while part of the building is occupied. Design work is to ensure patient and employee safety. Building 146 was built in 1980 and has an antiquated HVAC system. Design shall include enclosing the center courtyard of the ECRC and providing all utilities and room finishes for this area. The 16 beds surrounding the courtyard will have doors installed leading directly to the courtyard. In addition, the rooms and bathrooms will be upgraded. A nurse station will be installed in the courtyard for monitering and patient interaction. A patient wandering system shall have to be upgraded for this area. The existing fan coil thru-the-wall units shall be replaced with new VAV boxes (tied into the existing Ethernet LAN and Direct Digital controlled Energy Management System)which will allow the rooms to free-up exterior wallspace for installation of access doors. The A/E firm shall be familiar with the VA's design criteria for all Architectural/Engineering disciplines. The Mental Health Clinic Handbook 7610 design services shall include the following systems: Nurse Call System, Fire ALarm/Sprinkler System, Telephone/Data System, Medical Gas, Master Antenna Television System, etc. The A/E firm shall be familiar with NFPA 101, Life Safety Code and methods for ensuring patient safety in a nursing home environment. The Va's design criteria is now published on the World Wide Web (www.va.gov/facmgt/standard/standard/htm) as is the case with the A/E's submission criteria pg-08-15, Volume C. Selection criteria shall include: (1) Experience in type of work required (2) Professional qualifications and experience of staff to be assigned to the project (3) Ability to accomplish work within required time frames (4) Past performance as realted to quality of work, meeting schedules and keeping within scope and budget (5) Area of consideration limited to 100 mile radius to the Medical Center.Construction cost estimated between $1 million and $2 million.
