The project is to renovate an existing building constructed originally as a YMCA facility in the early 1900's into a world class fitness center at Fort Monroe, Virginia. The original structure has had several additions over the years. The existing building currently has a demolition contract underway removing much of the interior structure and hazardous materials such as lead based paint and asbestos. The existing building is a three story brick building with a basement. Work is to include all disciplines for renovation construction and major structural work to include design of falsework during construction. The existing building will be gutted to a shell and completely renovated on the inside including floors, walls, finishes, HVAC, electrical, etc. The existing pool area will be completely demolished and reconstructed. The final building will be approximately 34,000 SF. Portions of the building have been identified as historically significant and will be required to maintain the historical theme of the facility. The facility may still contain some areas of lead contamination and asbestos. Magnitude of construction is estimated to be between $5,000,000.00 and $10,000,000.00.
