Description
The Association of Old Crows and the Central Intelligence Agency will co-sponsor the third Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR) conference December l2-l3, 2000 at Mitretek Systems, McLean, Virginia. This conference will address five issues: Is there a threat? What is the status of anti-jamming? What is the status of readiness testing of GPS jamming? Locating and destroying jammers and denial of GPS to unfriendly users. The theme of the conference will be: "Navigation Warfare after Selective Availability: Are We Ready?" The chairman of the conference will be MG John Landry, USA (Ret.), National Intelligence Officer for Conventional Military Forces, Office of the Director of Central Intelligence. The conference will be classified at the SECRET, U.S. ONLY level. The keynote speaker will be Lt Gen John L. Woodward, Jr., USAF, Director, Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems, Joint Staff (J-6). There will be three sessions: Ray Swider, Assistant for GPS Positioning and Navigation in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for C3I and Space Systems, will chair the Satellite Navigation Systems session. Topics will include: NAVSTAR Global Positioning System: Present Status/Future Plans (GPS JPO); Report of the Defense Science Board on GPS III (Bill Delaney, MIT); and Foreign Satellite Navigation Systems (CIA). Scott Feairheller, Satellite Navigation Engineer at the National Air Intelligence Center, will chair the Threat of Hostile Jamming and Exploitation session. Topics will include: Ground-based GPS Jamming Systems (NGIC); Airborne GPS Jamming Systems (NAIC); Technological Feasible Threat, (MIT); Foreign Exploitation of GPS Signal (WSSIC SATNAV Panel); and a panel will discuss Current and Future Threats. William Delaney, MIT Lincoln Labs, will chair the "Countering the Threat" session. Topics include: NAVWAR Overview (Joe Lortie, Overlook); NAVWAR, What Can Be Done Today? (Terry McGurn); JPO NAVWAR Program, Early Results/Future Plans (Capt Dave Vaughn, SMC/CZE); Electronic Support (SMC/CZE); Joint GPS Combat Effectiveness Test (Col Bob Greenlee); and Advanced Anti-Jam Receiver Techniques (Lockheed Martin, ERI and MIT Lincoln Lab). A panel discussion entitled "Are We on Schedule?" will conclude the conference. Prior NAVWAR conferences have contained informative thought provoking briefings and this one will be no exception. This conference fills up quickly, so register early.
