Description

The Air Armament Center intends to award a Firm-Fixed Price contract, to FARO Technologies, Inc., 125 Technology Park, Lake Mary, FL 32746, under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12 Acquisition of Commercial items and FAR Part 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures if no other qualified offer is received. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation and a written request for quotes. RFQ will not be issued. The solicitation number for this announcement is F08651-01-T-0050. The requirement is for an Articulated Inspection Arm. The Articulated Inspection Arm is an unique precision measurement device which is used to physically measure complex aircraft, weapons systems components and mechanical parts. Measurements are made by an operator manipulating the end of the arm and touching the parts with a special inspection calibrated probe at the end of the arm. A controller linked to the arm will record all inspection points. The controller creates a three-dimensional Computer Aided Design (CAD) model from the inspection points. This CAD data can be transported to engineering CAD systems to produce drawings for reverse engineering and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programs for machining parts. This Inspection Arm consists of a series of tubular links with articulated joints. Each joint shall have a highly accurate encoder to measure the angular position of each link as the device is manipulated. Each link of the arm shall have precision temperature sensors to mathematically correct for minute temperature fluctuations. The arm shall be counter balanced, lightweight, portable, and shall have a portable referencing sphere to calibrate probes. Description of components: 1 ea.
